Sustainability isn't a marketing word here — it's an operating principle. Here's exactly how we've built Shepherd Stays to work with the land, not against it.
Solar Powered
Most of our electricity comes from the sun.
A 10kW rooftop solar array powers every socket, light and device across both huts, the sauna and the grounds. A large battery bank stores surplus for cloudy days.
Wood Heating
Cast iron burners. Sustainably sourced logs.
Every hut has a hand-cast iron log burner. Much of our firewood comes from a manaing woodland on the site — thinned and coppiced as part of a long-term habitat management plan.
Solar Underfloor Heating
Warm floors, powered by stored daylight.
Solar-powered underfloor heating for year-round comfort.
Sustainable Materials
Reclaimed, renewable, responsible.
Reclaimed timber, low-impact materials throughout.
Rewilding
